Of course, that is exactly what I did, and it looks fine.

However, it is alarming that this has a problem for at least a couple of revisions. On further examination "=abc" & "=123" are fine, but "= ", "=*" etc throw the error. "=()" gives a "Missing operand" error, whereas "=(1)" is fine. This is perhaps a hint that some really ancient preVFP FoxPro code is buried in there.
