Well, my PC has a DVD player but this still won't run. The files are contained on a CD-R disc.

Sorry to hear about ypour brother, my condolenses.
Navigate to \MPEGAV and dblclick AVSEQ01.DAT. Windows media player plays the movie.
PS: Or from media player choose open and navigate there.
