FWIW I ran into the same problem with several of my reports. I have detail band fields, which print non-calculated values, that are the same width and have the same formatting as the corresponding fields in the group footers and the summary band, which print calculated values. The group footers and summary band fields print as expected but the detail band field values print as asterisks even though they contain smaller values. Looks like a bug to me, too.
