(I'm using VFP 5.0) I remember in old dBase days we tended to avoid memo fields, but was curious what the thinking was on them these days. Are there any special considerations I should keep in mind?

Memo fields are a lot easier to manage these days. In the past, when you PACKed a database, it did not pack memo fields. You had to do a COPY TO of the whole file, dump the original, and reload from the COPY. You don't have to do that now. I find myself using them a lot more than I did in the past.
