Back to that old chesnut the Foxpro Webserver again.

It is for cross-process communication between the WebServer process and the Worker processes.

Having received a page request that requires some processing the Server process wants to offload this to one of the worker processes, these may or more likely may not be on the same machine. When the worker process has finished it also needs to write the response back to the Server.
