Yes, and it turns out the tmpfiles folder is not the issue. We have another VFE app on that machine with a LOT of indexed views. We pointed the tmpfiles for that app at the c:\temp folder and everything opens (and indexes) without a problem.

The difference between the two apps is the bad app had the views dbc compiled into the exe. The more complex app which works fine has the views dbc excluded and living in the data folder.

The odd thing is half out our XP boxes don't have a problem opening indexed views from a dbc compiled into the EXE, so there is still some difference between the boxes but even when I went so far as to go the the command window in XP and

cacls c:\temp

I cannot see the difference between the permissions on the two boxes. But both are definitely sending their tmpfiles to that folder.

So, for now we are excluding the views dbc until we get a better idea.

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
