I do it on principle; apart from some complications editing directly in grid (complications arise if you work on related tables), there is also the issue that if you have many fields, a table-type presentation (i.e., a Grid object) just doesn't offer enough space. So, I show the fields which are most relevant for
searching the data; below the grid, for instance, I have much more space to edit lots of fields.
