I tend to agree with avoiding additional windows, unless the user requests them. Users are starting to get fed up with unsolicited popup windows, and, in IE, use third-party products to block them, or use built in features in others browsers for the same purpose.

(Note: Opera can distinguish between solicited - pressumably, with a click - and unsolicited popups, and can be adjusted accordingly.)
