Ok, Thanks for the clarification John. I think I need to research this some more anyway because data security is becoming more of an issue everyday and I need to know the options when considering which tool and backend to use for small to medium and even some large companies. A nice spreadsheet covering the options (different backends with builtin security management and different front-ends, OS security options for managing data security, etc) would be terrific--the only problem is it would constantly be changing!

The fact that security in .NET IS NOT wrapped up into application-specific details is why it is a preferrable/superior architecture to what could be accomplished in VFP. Could you approximate it in VFP? I suppose...but you would have to roll your own - quite expensive solution...
