You are right, Spanish language is very phonetic, however, it is more complicated than English due to verbs conjugation mostly. Also, is richer than English in synonyms and that sort of things.
Therefore, It is more difficult to learn Spanish than English.
Not to mention tildes and other typographic symbols.
