I forgot to mention; personally, I used the string method - ";Option1;Option2;" a lot when users had to select a few options. But it does seem to me that the third method - table of options, and subquery - is potentially the fastest. I suspect that the string method is not appropriate to select from a table with very many records.
inlist(), on the other hand, is Rushmore Optimizable, just like its equivalent with OR, which you posted.
