pick a SERVER OS - such as Windows 2000 Server OR linux .

what u want the server to do ?
i always work from home - and have MANY servers here that do DIFFERENT THINGS.

as to an effort in futility ? depends on what your goals are.

When I travel - I usually bring 3 computers with me - 2 of them are servers.

again - what are your goals for having a 'server' ??
