Does it have to be a General field? Using General fields for images has two serious problems: 1) They take up much more space than JPG-files or GIF-files (for example, in a test I did, a 50 KB JPG file took up more than 1 MB in the General field), 2) It is difficult to get the JPG (or other image) back out of the General field.
One alternative is to keep the JPG picture in a separate file; a character or memo field contains only the filename.
