It's not necessarily that's it's not economical, but not practical. And it's not that it's running all the time that's the determining factor, but how critical it is that the server IS running all the time. I host a web server in my office that runs 7/24, but it's not critical that it be running 7/24. The difference is the need to have someone on call to fix the problem should the server go down. If I'm out of town and my server crashes, it's down until I get back. If it's crucial that your server have minimal downtime, then you should consider hosting it at facility that is staffed 7/24.
