No idea. Did you try with a smaller BMP file? Or saving a BMP with different programs? You may have some non-standard format. And did you try whether you can open your BMP file with some viewing or editing software, like IrfanView?
In any case, JPG or GIF take up much less space than BMP. This is because BMP doesn't useany data compression. Therefore, usually JPG or GIF should be preferred. (Note, however, that JPG usually uses "lossy" compression - quality is lost when saving, and GIF is limited to 256 colors.)
Oh, and by the way, an advantage I didn't mention, of having the pictures in separate files, is that you won't have problems with the 2 GB limitation, in VFP tables. At least, not as soon.
