Hy Paul,
Maybe you never think about that.. but using ODBC you can manipulate this data.
For example.
Create DBC,
Create RemoteView based on "Excel Files" Driver
Create View, select XLS file,(select checkbox [Include System Tables] - and in list appears all sheets in Excel filename.
Next step - you can select fields and customize remote view
You can setup Update Rules and "Send SQL Update" command.

After you USE - you can
modify data and send TABLEUPDATE() .. and Excel data will updated.

On my privios example - just one way to work with ODBC connections.. you may use this way with Access, Excel, Text files and any other ODBC Sources. Seems Its very flexable way to work with external data in VIsual FoxPro.
