Bob,
>Yes, it did and that seems to be most of the problem. Thanks!
I'm not sure what makes the interaction between VSS and anti-virus programs so slow, but it really kills the performance.
>It now takes 8 minutes to open the project - a LOT faster but isn't that still a long time?
Not for a 1000 files, every one ends up being a few COM calls to the VSS server across the network.
>Um...I'm not sure how to get the lastest version (GLV) of all files from within VSS as I've never used that interface. I can Select All to select everything within a folder but it doesn't get the contents of the subfolders.
>I did a search without specifying a search term and that seems to give me all files which I can then select all at once - but GLV then asks me for a single destination folder.
If you Set the working folder from VSS to the appropriate local folder on your machine, you can rightclick the highest level folder you want to pull down and select Get Latest. Then from inside VFP you can just do the actual check in /check out process on the file by file basis.
Another thing that greatly speeds your work is to have one project attached to VSS and one without. Use the VSS joind project to checkin/out. Use the other project for your routine daily work on the files.
