As I recall the BrainBench exams were quite different in scope from the Microsoft exams. What Microsoft does when constructing exams is to identify what skills a developer should have (this was done by a group of Community members) and then prepare questions that measured those skills. That being said, some exams measure only the capability to answer the exam questions.
