Where do I get MS chart? Is it a separate utility for charting outside Excel?
--

I was thinking about MS Graph, not Chart -- both are old, not new. Graph has the appropriate interfaces to use. I think it is still delivered with MS Office, not sure.

--
What is new in VFP 9 when it comes to charting?
--

For one thing, you can render directly to the reporting surface and draw whatever you want.

--
Do you know of any code examples that does what you just mentioned? I understand the principle, but I am still unclear of how to generate the chart in the first place.
--

Yes, of course I do know of such code examples . I think I first showed such an example at DevCon 96.

But you could start by looking at the graph automation samples that are in an MSDN Fox white paper and how they're applied in the Graph Wizard that comes with VFP.

You don't have to show the form, you just have to manipulate it as shown in those examples during the report run. You just put an appropriate general field-based object in the report.
