> where I have to make a choice of a DBMS running in Windows (v3.11 and 95, but now mostly v3.11, for now...), and have been looking at VFP Pro 3.0 and VdB Pro 5.5. Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on this matter? I also looked at Delphi and VB, but feel that a DBMS is better suited to the need.
john,
welcome to the quandry of 96! my personal observations are;
1> unless u have lotsa little non-db projects, you really
dont want to use delphi or vb.
2> if you have lotsa fp2.x applications, stay with fp2.x
until you have worked out a COMPLETE migration plan and
tried a project or 2 in vfp (independent of your installed
base).
3> until your entire client base has moved to WIN95/NT,
you do not want to commit to vfp5.0 as it will not support
16bit platforms.
my $.02 for what its worth (free advise is worth what you pay
for it).....
