If you don't need an Outlook-style interface, you can create a simple table with fields From T, To T, Description C, perhaps fields to mark items as completed, etc.
I did something similar for a dentist, with a few hours work.
It is the creation of a graphical interface like the one in Outlook that will make it desirable to use 3rd. party products.
