I have had this issue before. If memory servers me right, we were using Oracle 7x UNIX data with VFP 3.0 on Win95 machine. We fixed it by replacing the new driver provided by oracle. Microsoft also has ODBC driver for Oracle which was causing issues.

There is nothing wrong with the statement and the same statement may have worked multiple times before it crashes. With SQL Server and VFP Backend, this problem is not observed. Oracle ODBC Drivers are used.
