I had the same problem when a client upgraded to XP from 98, and XP was much slower there. In our software, I spotted the problem to be with ADIR().

In our case, we did not see the problem if the files were on a W2K server, but only slowed down WK2 or XP workstations.

I havent tried it, but you might want to explore the possibility of using WSH to load the directory and work with files instead of VFP native files commands.
