Does anyone know of a better activex control (or other method) than mswinsock to access a Modbus device via TCP/IP?

I am working on an application that needs to read a Modbus counting device and can't quite seem to get the proper returns from the mswinsock control. I can connect fine, but the sendata() and getdata() methods are the holdups.
