I have only seen a Mac twice in an office... once was at a publishing office that created magazines, and the other was our marketing guy that is an author. The publishing office had PC's except for a couple of Macs for the guys that did the layout of the magazines. I have been at a LOT of companies and Macs are not used in the business world to work on business apps with data. They do have their place for publishing, artistic uses, scholastic uses, etc. But the dominant machine in the business world today is the PC.

So to me, the purchase of a Mac would be a waste if you are a business application developer. Also, a Mac can cost 2-3 times the cost of a comparable PC... so to just get one to test with or play with would be an expensive and wasteful venture.

If you have a lot of web stuff where you need to test compatibility, etc then a Mac as a test machine might make sense. But to get a Mac as your main workstation, and try to do development on it in a MS tool to me would not be advised. If anything, buy a nice PC for $700-800 and a Mac for $3k and have them both on your desk. Then just switch to do what you need.
