I'd think that just your "regular" quotes - you know, the stuff starting with ">>>>>>>>>>" and such, would be good enough.
On the other hand, Michel, in his reply to me, indicates that he doesn't tamper with message content (my paraphrase).
My thought was to let the user decide, with an option to leave (regular) quotes in or remove them.
I know that several people used to complain about the wasted bandwidth of quoted stuff, and I see that many still have 'member... trim your quotes' in their "signatures", so it looks to me that it would have some value.
