The easiest way is to used the VFP9 Beta, it will do what you want by setting the layout for only two controls,

AllowCellSection = .F.

HighLightStyle= 2

This only works if your columns controls are textboxes, checkboxes on grids are not higlighted...not tried for other controls...

Note:Needs the full release of VFP9 if your going to use the BETA Version
