'Key' field is primary key to tell VFP what to check when data will go back to table. 'Pencil' means that only these fields will be really updated in table regardless what other fileds you changed in view.
Again, it doesn't look as a reason. If it's not grid, then make sure that DataEnvironment.Cursor.ReadOnly=.f. for this view.
