I agree with Hilmar on recommending optimistic buffering. However, if you want your users to know everytime someone is editing a specific record so no two users attempt to edit the same record at the same time, then pessimistic works well. I had that requirement when I worked for the government - the entire app used pessimistic for that very reason. They had a requirement that no two workstations could edit the same record at the same time so the record had to be locked on editing instead of on the save like optimistic.
