I always do that (and it was a point of confusion when I read the trilogy (more than once - no TV!) Thank you for helping me that!:-). I remember an old SCI-FI movie "KRONOS". It was a "cube" from outerspace and sucked the electricity from earth power grids - when the military nuked it - it just got bigger.
