>>I always do that (and it was a point of confusion when I read the trilogy (more than once - no TV!) Thank you for helping me that!:-). I remember an old SCI-FI movie "KRONOS". It was a "cube" from outerspace and sucked the electricity from earth power grids - when the military nuked it - it just got bigger.

>I read the trilogy more than once, too - it is one of those fantasy stories worth reading more than once, together with the Hobbit. The Silmarillon I find a little more boring, and didn't yet take the courage for a second reading...

>BTW, if you liked Tolkien, you might also like some other fantasy stories. I enjoyed the Harry Potter series, and the books by Michael Ende, like "Momo", "The Neverending Story", and "Jim Button".

Hilmar, see if you can find "The Fionavar Tapestry". A trilogy by Guy Gavriel Kay. It's quite remarkable. Kay worked with Chris Tolkien on putting together 'The Silmarillion' from J.R.R.'s notes.
