I'm trying to decide on the best way to obtain user information from a table that will reside on our in-house (or hosted) web server?

Here is the basic outline of what I want to do...

1. The user installs our software and then runs a registration wizard.
2. In the registration wizard, they will enter a customer number and serial number and then I would like our desktop application to retrieve their registration information (name, address, phone numbers, etc) from a table that resides on our website.
3. The contact information will then appear in our registration wizard for them to change and re-submit to us via email. We will review the information and make the changes to our user database.

How can I issue a request to our web server to create a file containing just their user info that I can then download via ftp and read into my app. I can handle #1, downloading of the file, and #3, but I don't know how to issue a command to the server to create the user info table.

Any ideas on the best approach.
