First, I suggest converting the backend to SQL Server.
Second, somewhere, before you make the conversion, you should decided whether the application is to be a desktop or web based application. I can't give you the answer to that.
Once that decision is made, I'd recommend the following: If you decide to make it a desktop application and there's a lot of data munging going on, it'll be far faster to keep the VFP front end. If there's not a lot of data munging and the decision is made to be web based, then .NET is what you need.
Note that one of the criteria in making this decision should be the load placed on the database server. Going web based without considering this is, IMO, a grave mistake.
