Our Chicago FUDG August meeting was a great success. Fox Talk editor, David Stevenson, proved to be a good draw -- basically doubling our normal turnout. He gave us a fairly detailed view of how the VFP 9 Report Listener class works -- what kinds of output and run time flexibility.

But there was more at work than just the evening session. The company that I work for had David give a session on "Encapsulating Legacy Code in an Object Oriented Fashion using the Session Class". This insight and a strategy discussion the next day gave our programming team a whole new idea of how to go forward. Dave has a rare combination of being both unassuming and authoritative. We got some new excitement and unity on the team and have a relationship with a willing and able collaborator.

I'm posting this as an encouragement to other user group activists. It is not just the broadening of FoxPro education and network building that can come from our organizing. Some very useful advances can come for personal projects and for team building on your own job.

David who stepped into a new challenge with his Fox Talk editorship and I who was on the verge of user group burnout got a taste of what that extra mile can do -- it can be the difference between success and failure.
