Hmm, looks like you are correct. i just used PrtInfo() against acrobat and it returns a '100'. when i used it against a HL LaserJet 4000 (where i expected it to work - because in word i was able to do it) i received a '-1' which i interpreded as switched off.

so now it seems my original idea is no good. looks like i have rethink my approach.

thanks for your help on this on.

>I don't have a printer that supports scaling but I tested with Adobe PDF driver and setting Scale=nn in Expr works. Concerning MS Word or other application, I guess we misunderstood each other. I was referenig to optins, like 'Fit to page', 'Fit to width', e.t.c.

>>i tried that with no success. concerning Ms Word i don't agree with you. i have about 20 network printers installed here on my machine. when i go through the different printers, the options for scaling changes, on some printers there are no options. because of that i believe that the scaling is done by the printer - not the app.

>>following this logic, i believe the scale value to be entered must be something like 0/1, .t./.f., yes/no, or the paper size (specified with an integer identifying it) to tell the printer what to scale it to. i am testing the 'on/off' settings right now - so far with no success.

>>there is also a another possibility. maybe the scale setting relys on another setting which has to be set. something like
>>scale=1 && switch scaling on
>>papersize=11 && originaly used to specify the size to print on, now used to specify what size to scal down/up to
