True. That said <g>:
for your situation you could refox, compile under different versions of vfp and compare the results.
If no difference exists, who cares ?
I've used a similar approach when the deployed versions were build
from a different code base than the one kept under source safe.
REALLY fun debugging incidents weeks later.

This is as it should be: imagine a program targeted for deployment under 6 and 8.
If version() in the 6-runtime would return the compile time version "8",
you might end up trying to use bindevent() in 6 <bg>.
