Hi Gary,

Thanks for the response. Once I looked at the download I realized it was not what I thought and, in fact would cost a lot more than buying the DEV KIT from Go Software and doing the integration myself. Oh well, doesn't hurt to ask!

Thanks,

Ken

>Ken,
>The charge.ocx provided in the demo is a demo COM object that simulates charge transactions so you can get an idea of what's involved in setting up a system. You pass it a charge request and it pretends to call the server, dial out, etc., and pass back a typical response message.

>If you just want to run their client software on individual workstations connected to the internet or a modem, you don't need the Dev Kit. To incorporate it into your app, you want the Dev Kit.

>You *might* be able to get away without it, but you wouldn't save any money. The PC Charge server app typically sits on a server somewhere and the work stations pass charge requests to it and get back the results. Although this is a pretty simple file based messaging system, without the Dev Kit, you'd get no documentation on formats, timing, etc. and no tech support. With the Dev Kit, you get COM objects to handle this stuff and documentation.

>The docs have some holes, but are invaluable for getting a system up and running and tech support was very knowledgeable when I called for help with something.

>Their client software UI is a little buggy (no proof but it smells like VB), but the COM object, which I assume their UI calls, is pretty solid.

>>>I've had a fair amount of experience with the charge engine this example uses, PC Charge from Go Software. It works well and they even include some VFP examples along with the expected VB sample code. The PC Charge developer documentation could be better, but whose couldn't, and tech support is quite good.
