I was correct in suspecting that I was making a silly mistake.

It turned out that the datetime() stamps my bizobj was putting on the dcreated and dmodified fields in the remote view were unacceptable to the datetime fields in SQL. I changed the fields to smalldatetime and everything went ahead as planned.
