I'm in process of developing a Pont Of Sales/Inventory Tracking system and wanted to get a feed back from other developers on what strategy to use regarding the cash register data. I basically have thought of two ways to handle the data
1- Store the register sales data in local tables on the "cash-register PCs" and read them into the server table as a part of the daily closing process.
2- Store the register sales data on the server.

The advantage of the first method is less traffic on the network, therefore faster response at the cashier, however the inventory tracking is not real time.
I'm interested to hear any comments or suggestions from anyone who has developed a similar system
