OK. I found a way to repeat the problem.
1) Reboot.
2) Open VFP. Do string search, goes fast.
3) Open windows explorer.
4) Do string search in VFP, goes fast.
5) Do a delete in windows explorer, which goes very slow.
6) Do string search in VFP, goes *slow*
7) While the string search is going on, close windows explorer: string search immediately speeds up.
Now. Why? How to fix? Maybe I need to reinstall windows explorer?
TIA,
Alex

>This sounds like your virus scan software scanning files as it opens them. Disable virus check and see if that eliminates the problem. You may need to tweek some settings to prevent scanning some file types.
