there's definitely something wrong there, but I really don't know what. It shouldn't take that long. Take a look at this article for instance:

there you'll see some sorts of things that can be done, and it doesn't take that long at all... that web-site actually uses GDI+ everywhere in order to render the contents for the articles and some other stuff.
