Speed issue actually depends on what back-end would be used for VB appplication. The general rule is that if you have significant amount of users doing significant amount of interactive editing/adding new data then C/S solution might be appropriate. I admit, that it's very difficult to defint what is 'significant' (for me it's 50 users spending 50% of their time to change data).
