I agree. MS attitude seems to be that since you've given them money for the new version, you are now obligated to spend more money converting all your old code to the new version (it's good for the economy).
Actually, I say that a bit tongue in cheek. I converted a couple of apps recently - one a fair size, and the other a not so fair size, and in both cases they took only a little more than a recompile.
