I don't understand. What's different about requiring the author to include that category than any other piece of information. I'm not saying to sort/filter on the category, just make it available so we know where the software belongs. Synchronization is not a problem as the author is responsible for the category. It they do not update it to say it is a commercial version then I'm sure someone here would let them/you know. Seems simple to me.
