John,

>One more try and then I give up. How do you know what 50,000+ developers think or feel? You cannot possibly have the faintest idea (just like most of your posts) what you are talking about. Generalizations do not help your argument, they point out the falacy of your point (as always).

Let's get a little perspective here. Jim certainly cannot point to a survey that he has taken that proves that he speaks for 50,000 VFP users.

However, people very often can extrapolate such suspected percentages based on a variety of factors. We do it all the time during beta testing, where we might post something to Microsoft along the lines of "I think you should reconsider the way you did this, because LOTS of VFP developers are going to immediately think it works like this... maybe you should say, "blah...."

As an editor, I read articles submitted to me with the same kind of filter, trying to put myself into the shoes of as many of my readers as possible and thinking, "OK, you (the writer) have worked in this area for several years and know this information inside and out, but the average Joe developer may not have the same perspective. I think you need to expand your explanation at this point to explain some more of the basic concepts, etc"

It's really not out of place at all for Jim to say that half the VFP developers need so and so.
