If I press F8 before the progress bar reaches the right side of the screen during bootup, I get a Windows XP Startup Menu which has the following options:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with command Prompt
Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA Mode
Last Known good configuration
Debugging Mode
Boot Normally

The boot log may be helpful. It logs all drivers and services as they are loaded (or not loaded) by the system and stores it to the ntbtlog.txt usally in the \windows directory.
