Wow, look at this:
http://www.denverareacouncil.com/tahosa/page0004.htmThey turned the camp into a High Adventure Base and Training Facility.
I lived in the Ranger's house and my oldest sister visited us in June of 1976 and was going to get married in the outdoor chapel. It snowed a foot that day and we were stuck on the mountain. We had to hold the ceremony in the Rangers house. I used to climb Sawtooth Peak and Longs Peak. Having been to Estes Park, you must remember both Sawtooth and Longs Peak...
I had to add this. It seems that Ward, Colorado has not changed one bit! :o)
http://www.ghosttowns.com/states/co/ward.html>I was in Estes Park in 1984. The town itself seemed very much for the tourists, but we were staying with a doctor who's house had an amazing view of the mountains; from above. I have never seen anything quite like it before or since.

>>I seem to be a magnet for natural disasters. I watched 3 tornadoes pass over my house when I was growing up in Wisconsin. Watched one as I was driving through Texas. I've experienced numerous hurricanes in North Carolina. I was in Estes Park, CO during the Big Thompson flood of 1976. I was in Monterey, Ca (at DLI) during the earthquake in Oct of 1989. There was an avalanche when I was visiting the Zugspitz in the mid 80's and we couldn't ski. Now I'm watching Hurricane Frances carefully. I hate to wish any ill on anyone but if I'm lucky it will not hit North Carolina and instead it will pass elsewhere (hopefully out in the middle of the Atlantic). I'll pass on experiencing any other natural disasters!
