I am not wrong, but my message possibly was not 100% clear. Smart serial number CAN be read, I have never written anything else. But the 'real' serial number can NOT be read. The 'real' serial number is the serial number which is written on the sticker on the HD, the 'smart' serial number is 'hidden' electronically inside the HD.
>You're wrong. Smart serial number can be read with programmatically. At least I saw some DLLs (Reza has one thing) which do that. And Microsoft do that with Windows XP too.

>>You are wasting your (and our) time, because the 'real' number can NOT be found programmatically, no matter how much you try! It is printed on the HD after the HD is produced, and only the HD factory knows the link between the 'real' serial number and the 'smart' serial number. This link is used to discover fraud. You have to use a keyboard or a barcode scanner to read the 'real' serial number.
