>Glad to hear that you made it through OK. We are getting lots of rain and high wind here in St. Pete, but still have power and internet at our house (power is off just one street away from us).
>
>We just walked down to the bay two blocks away (had to get out of the house or go crazy) and the water was up over the seawall and the street flooded. We sat at a picnic table where the water was 18 inches deep, and they expect it to go higher by high tide around 6 pm.

>All in all, we were very fortunate in our neighborhood. The huge, old banyan tree in the front yard didn't lose even one limb, although the streets are littered with leaves and small limbs.

We also did not lose power or internet at all.Made the cabin fever for almost three days more bearable. At least got more time to read, blog, play some games...

I saw some local flooding and debris (mostly palm fronds and tree limbs), but no downed trees on my way to work. Airport flights on normal schedule (I work next to MIA).

A neighbor told me he checked on his boat at high tide past midnight and saw only a 2-foot surge (i.e. nothing to worry about). That is due to being on the left-side of the storm where winds push the water away. The right-side is always stronger and pushed the sea towards the East Coast of Florida, due to its counter-clockwise rotation.

>>Now Ivan is on the horizon. Could be here next weekend. It is a very strong storm (already a category 3 hhurricane) and is breaking reords for being so strong so early. Let's hope for the best.

>I'm not going to think about Ivan for at least a couple of days... Sick of hurricane coverage on the news.

I hear you. At work today (Monday - US Holiday) to bring back the production data to Miami from our backup computer center out of state. We may have to do it all over again next weekend :(
