I will possibly be working on converting a VFP app to .Net. The VFP app ships with dbf files embedded in the EXE. These files contain proprietary lookup data. While not 100% secure at least it keeps the (honest) users away from them.

How could I provide a simmilar mechanism in .Net? Is it possible to embed (embedded resource) dbf files or an access db file in the assembly and have ado.net read data from it?

My other thought was to ship it as an encrypted XML file or password protected access db. How secure is the password protected access db.

Yes, in a perfect, connected high speed world we would expose this as a secure web service, however, it is possible we will have remote disconnected clients or those without internet connections.

Any info on the above or other ideas greatly appreciated.
